Recent flooding in southern Louisiana displaced thousands of families, destroyed homes and small businesses, and left a trail of devastation across communities in that state. More than 60,000 homes have been damaged, and 13 people have died as a result of the flood.
When R2 Logistics was informed that some of these individuals were friends and colleagues from The Scotts Company, the company jumped on board to donate funds to help them recover. The Scotts Company created a GoFundMe page to help 12 families directly affected by the flood, and R2 Logistics asked their employees to make donations at their own will. R2 Logistics CEO, Ben Gase, also committed to matching all employee donations.
“While all of our Scotts associates and their families living in the Baton Rouge area are safe, some have suffered immeasurable loss and are only now beginning the recovery process. At the Geismar Growing Media plant alone, at least 12 families watched as water flooded their homes and cars, and ruined their clothing, children’s toys, and other personal possessions,” said Kyle Stuebs, Vice President Human Resources.
Over the course of two days R2 Logistics employees donated $1,010 with Ben Gase matching this amount. The collective contributions from the GoFundMe campaign will be provided to affected associates in the form of direct financial assistance to provide immediate relief with temporary housing, food, clothing, medical needs, and other necessities.
In addition, every dollar raised through the GoFundMe page will be matched by Scotts Miracle-Gro. If you would like to make a personal donation, you can do so by clicking on the link here: Scotts Associates Flood Relief
